No Fly Zone

Hhhhmmmm.
Well.
I think ...
Said the bespectacled man
Presiding over the meeting
Of the United Nations
Security Council.
I ...
A plate of croissants
Caught his eye.
Could you pass me one of those croissants?
Wait: it's after midday.
What's our advised position
On afternoon croissant consumption?

Three score men and women
Leafed through thick portfolios.
Permissible.
Though frowned upon
To take them with preserves.
Everyone took a break
For a few minutes
To eat a croissant.
With butter, only.
The afternoon croissant consumption forms
(ACC 15.1)
Were completed in triplicate.

So ...
He continued.
Dabbing at the edges of his mouth.
Meticulously.
Sarkozys jumping up and down,
I hear.
He breathed a massive sigh.
Unfortunate: drumming up
Enthusiasm before the proper
Legal implications, not to mention,
The potential socio-economic
Repercussions, of any
International intervention,
Are comprehensively anticipated,
And approved.
Hhhhmmmm.
Tricky.
Well, that's lunch. Back here in two hours.

Seven thousand miles away,
The tank columns roll
Towards the last free city.
And like so many crumbs
Brushed off a bulge of crisp white shirt,
A people empowered by a want
For democracy and freedom,
Are scattered
And swept away.
